Holiday on the Beach Resorts Destinations

We are a party of 5, in our 30′s 2 mates and a spare , traveling to Phi Phi Island from October 10, 2010 to October 14, 2010 (not packing). We are looking for some selective information on the Phi Phi area . We are entrusting on Sunday October 10, 2010 from Bangkok on an AirAsia flying and are expected to make it in Krabi at 11h40 Koh phi phi hotel booking. Can anyone reassert the approx price of a cab for 5 adults from Krabi Airport to the Krabi Pier? .

Should we reserve a caravan ( cab ) early or trade at the airport? I try it is a 40 min taxi ride is that straight? .

An acquaintanceship of ours, who has journeyed in the area, stated that we should not book our hotel in Phi Phi ahead of time as we are travelling in low season and there are usually sales people on the ferry or in the pier area that could book us a same day room at a discounted price, any truth to this claim? .

If so are these discounts for lodges or hotels?. We are looking for a 3.5-4 .5 star hotel, is this attainable or a realistic expectation using the aforementioned option? . Should we stay in the village area or consider the northern holiday resorts such as Holiday Inn, Phi Phi Island Village and such? Koh phi phi hotel booking.

We are always looking for business deals however we don’t mind paying for extra comfort, beach location etc.. Any hotel recommendation is welcome. Does anyone have suggestions for excursions other than the obvious Maya Bay and James Bond Island? Are there other beach areas, islands that are a must? I apologise for the loaded post and obvious questions, but your assistance is much taken account and will help improve our overall experience.
